As the weather becomes warmer, Hands on Stage, the school’s theater program, prepares for the opening of this year's spring musical. Each year, Hand puts on three productions, with the musical being highly anticipated.

While much of Hand’s student body has read — or at least heard of — Percy Jackson, the show chosen for this year's musical leaves many asking questions. Despite its popularity, it came as a shock to some that the series has since been turned into a musical. Many have been wondering what the audience should expect when the show opens on April 20th.

The Lightning Thief The Percy Jackson Musical is full of actors who are motivated and excited to perform such a fun show.

“I’m super excited to play my role of Gabe Ugliano, Percy’s foul stepfather,” Matt Stella said. “I hope to bring his character to life in a manner that is enjoyable to the audience.”

Junior Pierce McMillan has participated in multiple productions as both cast and crew. As the lead understudy in the musical, McMillan works among a large group of hard working students on the show.

“My favorite part about Hands on Stage is the people,” McMillan said. “Everyone in both cast and crew are so welcoming, they all help to foster a great, low pressure environment where everyone can thrive.”

In summarizing the show for potential viewers, Rory Biggs quoted the lyric: “Ohhh things couldn’t be worse, when your parents run the universe.”

With less than a month remaining before opening night, students and community members alike should purchase tickets for one of the four performances.

As cast member Abby Hummel said, “You should come see our lively performance!” Abby Hummel said. “It’s full of engaging story lines, unique characters, and fun songs. There is never a dull moment in the Percy Jackson musical, and it will be a blast to watch!”
