Nintendo Switch 2 Editorial By: Ella Evans
Nintendo released a trailer for their new Switch console on January 16th, 2025. The trailer was brief, but looking at the general shape and highlighted new features of the console, I have mixed opinions on its future.
Nintendo has released multiple new consoles since the release of the original switch in 2017. These include the Nintendo Switch Lite, which is a smaller, cheaper version of the original, and the Nintendo Switch OLED, which is bigger than the original and was made to enhance gameplay experience. Looking at the Nintendo Switch 2’s trailer, it seems like this console will have an even bigger screen than the Oled, ~8 in screen. This also means the height of the controllers will have to be extended as well. This caused some concerns originally because the console looks uncomfortable to hold. The Switch also runs off the idea that it is a small, portable game console, which is hypocritical to this size upgrade.
The release of a new Switch means that games that release will only be playable on the new version, forcing people to buy it if they want to get those games in the near future. Thought to be priced around $400, the Switch 2 seems like a general improvement to the software, but gives rise to some concerns about the portability and design.
